Lets see if I can Make this work. I just got back from CA, I was on the SHU Lighting complex in Shasta Lake area, I saw pretty bad fire behavior and very dry fuel in that area. I was there from july till the beginning of august. I operate a Type 3 engine from new mexico and coming from an area where we had rain from july to present it was quite a change. I hope we helped out the people from CA and i would not hesitate to hed up there to help them out .

i havent been on here in forever which is bad since im the leader of the group but i hope everyone is ready for fall fire season. over the summer my department along with the NCFS and several mutual aid departments fought two woods fires in one week. one fire was a 25-30 acre woods fire casused by of course lighting which was completley beat down within a week. on june 18th 2008 my department responded to a 53 acre woods fire with several structures and a large acreage hay field after 4 days it was completely beat down it is thus far the largest in caldwell county NC this year so hopefully that will be the largest and we wont have as many. allthough i have to admit i love beating down on a woods fire. everyone stay safe. and God Bless. i will try to get on her as often as i can.

Excellent examples of what Southern California firefighters deal with regarding wildland urban interface fires...

Hi everyone. I'm new to Firefighter Nation, having some extra time for now, waiting to see if I need knee surgery after blowing it out on wildland fire... A couple weeks back, I participated in my departments annual wildland refresher training where new philosophies regarding how we deal with protecting structures in the wildland interface were reviewed. From what I understand, since the burnover last year (USFS E-53) the USFS has come out and let folks know that they would no longer be providing structure protection. As a county fire department here in California, my department is committed to providing structure protection but has now fully embraced the concept of foam and go. Maybe this is old new for most folks but it sure seems like a safer alternative, protecting our firefighters as well as saving more homes. If this is a new concept for any of you, please feel free to give me a shout. We have combined research and training materials from LA County FD as well as USFS and CDF resources to come up with these new guidelines. Stay safe!
