We have a volunteer association website that member companies and their members can put announement out to those that sign on.
Some of them are for fund raisers. Restaurant nights, pizza nights, ice cream nights and one that some companies are trying a local food delivery company will park their delivery trucks at the station with food and people can sit at a table with a list of food they carry and mark down what they want to pay for and the personnel will go out to the trucks and box up the order. I have seen Chinese food, seafood, you name it and desserts.

Hey jake one thing that our department does is every year we have a fireman's ball. All of the money that we make goes into a fund. We call it the burn out fund it goes to people who have been diplaced by a house fire. Depending on the size of the family and how bad the house fire was we give them money to help out with food clothes motel if they need it. Everything we get is donated to us. We have a silent auction, raffle prizes and a live bank. we pay for the band but everything eles is donated. The cost of the tickets to go is 5 dollars. My wife and I have been in charge for the last four years and we have made alot of money that has gone to a good cause. Hope this helps if you have any questions go to my profile and leave me a comment or something. Be safe.

We tried something new about 4 years ago and it does real well. Horseback trail ride we average around 50-60 riders each year. We get local business to sponsor so there is no out of pocket expenses to the department in return we put their company name on the back of the event t-shirt. We make about $ 2,500 a ride.

My brother lives in Virginia and alot of departments there have reverse raffles. They sell a limited number of tickets say 300. They pick a main prize to be raffled say a car. Now the department ask local merchants to donate prizes that are part of the raffle. Now the raffle is a must be present to be a part of it. The department makes it a party with food and drinks and it can be a Men's Night or Ladies Night or a mixed affair.
Now all the numbers are draw out one at a time and at times or certain amount of drawn numbers prizes are given out. Now we get down to maybe 15 tickets that have not been called. The holders of those tickets come forward and sit in front of the crowd and other attendees can bid to buy a holder's ticket or all the tickets and the holders have to agreee to sell their tickets. If they don't sell they are eliminated by number draw. The last one with a wining ticket wins the prize. If all the holders agree to sell the bidder wins the prize.
Other things going on during the raffle are 50/50 tickets, Vegus strip tickets, and tip jar sells which bring in more money.

We do "Night with the Stars". Basically we pick songs and dress up like the singers or act out the song. You have to get creative. last year me and three other guys did two songs off of O Brother Where Art Thou. We did the whole Soggy Bottom Boys routine. And the whole department joined in to do Ray Stevens "Aint Sittin Up with the Dead". We have had a great response from it. We have teamed that up with fish and chicken strip plates and we made good both years. Will try to video NWS 3.

We have BBQ fundraisers a couple of times a year and in the fall we host a Halloween party for the community and usually close out the night with a cake walk.

To start find out if you have a local saddle or riding club in your area. Work with them to find a good place in your district to have one. If your like us and don’t a riding club check with nearby departments to see if they have one. You will need someone from your department to ride as trail boss to lead the riders on a specified trails. Other members should ride being space out with in the other riders to help keep everyone together and headed in the right direction. If possible find a place that is wagon friendly so that some can bring one and all the small kids can ride along. Each department has to set there own rules for the ride we do not allow 4 wheelers as they can spook horses and positively no alcohol. Make sure that all horses have negative coggins cert. Some land owners will ask for no smoking.

Have a pre registration form for people to mail in so you have idea of how many horses there will be, also only the riders that preregister will receive an event t-shirt. We set a price of $16.00 per rider $15.00 for the department, $1.00 go into a drawing the end of the ride with a 75/25 split. This along with other doors that donated by local business We also have some that donate $100.00 for a sponsorship that gets their business listed on the back of the event t-shirt. This money is used to buy drinks and food served to the riders at the halfway point (hotdogs and chips, lots water and some soft drinks work best) and shirts, any extra money is just a plus for your fund raiser. Try to have a way to water the horses at that time as well, we use one of our drop tanks for this purpose make sure it is clean. Our average ride is about seven to eight hours long. As for prep time making up fliers and learning the trails is about all. The day of the ride have firefighters help with traffic control and cook is all the work involved.

Rodeos require extra insurance that can be expensive.
