Hi Terry. Welcome to the group. I know what you mean by missing the fire service. I think that after spending as much time in the service as we have it becomes part of you. It's seems like something has been cut off. I have been out now for 13 years and I still talk about the fire service in present tense as if I was still operational. This website, combined with keeping in touch with old mates, some also retired and others still in the job, helps tremendously. I also have some fire related hobbies, so I guess it is still very much part of my life.

Hello all. I'm retired after 22 years, due to injuries while working at my fulltime water&sewer department job. Now they've drawn me back as a volunteer officer for the new local CERT group. Really miss the fire service tho! Miss getting paged out, dropping whatever you doing, battling your pet's to get out the door, and racing to make the first truck. Larry, I really like your line about needing oven mitts to drive your car in Arizona! Thats' a classic!

Hi Bob, Great idea for a new group. Don't know why I didn't think of it myself.

Greetings, Hope your all doing good in retirement, hey but isn't that why we worked all those years, to enjoy the fruits of or labor. Missing the job
everyday, so the wife now keeps me busy, doing all the stuff I missed for 25.5 years as a career firefighter/fire officer. Having fun being Mr. Mom.

I am a retired FF from Illinois with 38 years on the job. I now live in AZ which is the state closest to the surface of the sun. During the summer you need to buy oven mitts to steer your car. I do not miss the below zero days and being frozen to the street.

Hi Shaun: I lean towards the last name on helmet, but agree that it stinks that AFTER your effort the department changes it's formal mind. Speaking of using nicknames between ourselves, I never appreciated the impact when I would have "Killer" g...
