Colorful site! My first department as an Explorer, was Chrome Yellow. This selection was borne out of a response to a firefighter fatality and an intense safety culture became the result. Next the US Forest Service who in my dads early career were Forest Green, but by the time I had gotten there, use "Safety Green". No not Lime Yellow, but the now OSHA standard for marking colors Safety Green, (pipes,Valves etc.) CAL FIRE, then CDF, used Red/White tops as did my latter department Monterey Park. These really show dirt, and chipped paint etc. At San Marcos FD in CA we had White, with two demonstrator quick purchases and a CA Office of Emergency Services Rig in Red. (BORING...)Later we went White with a Lime Yellow Stripe, now they have a red rather than the lime stripe. North San Diego County at one time was largely White in the early 1960"s as a Safety Color option.
In 1974 Ward Lafrance advertised a fully enclosed cab and introduced Lime Yellow. I liked it as representing safety/visability. Also Porsche had their 914? mid engine sport car in that in the middle 1970's while I attended High School, looked pretty cool. And don't forget the beautiful image of a Mexican Lime/Key Lime in your Corona Bottle. "Baby Shit-yellow", please...I raised three and couldn't come near the shade of that lime in the beer bottle.
My current department, the Bureau of Land Management-Fire embraces the use of Lime Yellow for Engines, Crew Carrying Vehicles, Helitack and Water Tenders. The Staff vehicles vary in color by state. In California, we use for example, on my Battalion, Dodge Power Wagon, a approximately wide to the midline of the vehicle and centered, Lime yellow film over white. With white reflective stripes on that, with Black reflective lettering and numbers. I also have the Lime/ red safety stripe at the base of the tailgate to embrace the new aft safety stripe scheme.
My personal favorite is the Ventura County Yellow, white roof/blue stripeing. Also Hawaii County and Honolulu Fire Departments, (Yellow) pretty flashy.
I like those colors!

- My county has a few stations that have white and black apparatus. Most are red and white or more white with red strips. We got a mix of colors around the county.
