Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services

Our Mission.
To protect life, property and the environment in Mississauga from all perils, through education, prevention, investigation, training, rescue, fire suppression, dangerous goods containment and life support services.

City's statistics.
Mississauga is home to the Toronto International Airport (Air France 358 - 2005) Canada's largest and busiest.
It has the greatest concentration of major highways in Canada.
Is home to 50 Fortune 500 companies.
It is ranked number 1 as Canada's safest city.
And is famous for the largest evacuation ever in North America (until Katrina in 2005) when on November 10th, 1979 the entire population of Mississauga which at the time was 250,000 was evacuated. A 106 car CP freight train derailed carrying chlorine gas and propane. The subsequent explosions and fire kept residents away for a week and the Mississauga Fire Department very busy.

Run statistics for 2006.
25,088 calls.
Truck Travel Time - 3:41.
Medical calls accounted for 42%.
Accidents and rescues for 12%.
Vehicle and other fires 3%
and structure fires 2%.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mississauga's Fire Chief Garry Morden. Chief Morden passed away on October 22, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Chief Morden dedicated over 30 years of service to the city, to his community and to his profession. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Denise and all the Morden family at this most difficult time.
He was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed.
