St. Pat's Day in Beantown

My wife and I are disscussing a trip to Boston for St. Patrick's Day. I was wondering, what would be the place to stay. Also, where do we need to absolutely go for a pint and a bite to eat. I was thinking the Bell and Hand. On my last visit, I stayed in Braintree. I would like to stay in the city this time. Also, we like to know where to go to catch some live music while we're in town. I would appreciate any feedback and help anyone can offer.
