As we all know, we have laws that limit use of lights on a vehicle, blue only for firefighters, and blue white for ems personell, I personally dont get alot of people who move over for me, I feel that if red blue was allowed on a personal vehicle, the contrast in colors would cause more people to notice them and move over, that and the people who see my blue blue, dont think they need to move. Also i think that sirens are not a bad thing, More people would see and hear you comming and be out of the way if we were aloud a siren. Now i know there are people that would abuse the use of these, but look at nebraska, they are allowed red (and any other color) lights and sirens. I do feel this would be safer for all, please comment back on this.

Sam,
Blue lights are a courtesy light only, thus it is asking them to move out of the way. Don’t worry most people don’t move out of the way for red & blue lights anyways, no matter if its Law Enforcement, Fire or EMS.

ive seen it both ways, ive seen it were blue blue moved people also i myself have no blue light and i ive had people move out of the way, and ive seen were engines had to hold down the horn for what seemed like hours untill they finally moved.... O.o

i think its just the matter of who is paying attention and know whats going on..

this is true, but for the most part you want to be seen, which the contrast of colors gives you, and its nice to be heard, at least make people look around a little, but i know there isnt any change in the near future but can always be hopeful

all it takes is us firefighters to change it, if enough of us really wanted change we could obtain it. problem is alot of the stuff is very expensive the blue lights my station use's i think are ball parking 150-300 and more on the engines and rescue. factor wireing for sirens and a control box depending on what you have instead of 150 its now 500 plus some firefighters may not know or understand how to wire or ever how to mount a siren.

all comes down to money and the countys and state really but yea it would diffently be nice i will not argue that factor. (i still couldnt use them, as im a a probie. but there times i see where they become very helpful.)

Not sure how your department works, but here if you want a blue light, you have to approach the chief, and he has to sign a permit for you to have it, and you can go out and buy what ever light you please. We dont provide anyone with lights. Now on the fact of the wireing and sirens. If you want one and dont know what your doing, pay for it to be done. If you dont want to pay extra, dont get one. Its that simple. Now my dad runs a whelen dual talon blue blue led light. Thats all we need. Except that i would like red blue for more noticablity and a siren to be heard. (I too can not have a light, because i am a cadet). But we could really use a siren, because we are often going straight to the scene, due to the fact we live the farest from the station. Now i understand that people dont necessarily want to put money into sirens and lights, but thats fine. They dont need to have them. But for people like me, it would be really nice.

i agree and ya we have to do the same and sign papers for sherifs department aswell as dot :\.

i live like 4-5 blocks away from my station i just have to cross a major intersection in town which is always busy im usually one of the first to the station.

With the blue light in personal cars people dont have to move over for you. It jsut a courtiousy light. Also with them lights its still illigal to speed. A cop can still pull you over and ticket you if wanted too

I have one. But at 3am in New Virginia there isn't much need to ever turn it on. I have had it for over a year and have used it twice.
