I agree that there are some "oldtimers" who will say we belong barefoot and pregant or "in the kitchen". I just got to laugh it off. I love the challenge and more physical the better. It is a great honor to be part of the team and it is also easier for me because my husband has been on long time prior but I had to gain the respect of the boys club.

Hi, My name is Pam, been on the fire department 15 years, I am only an apparatus operator and still have to take heat from the men at the fire house. Some still think it is a women job to be bare foot, pregnacy and in the kitchen. I love this job and we stay very busy on alot of fire and ems calls. I am also a medic, full time firefighter and a also work at a volunteer department, and a cancer survivor. Thanks for this site, pamfiregirl24, in Alabama.

The world needs more STRONG WOMEN out there! Thanks for all you do, and please be a mentor to all the young people you can :-) Only 2% of Firefighters are women, I am proud of all of you!

howdy. From what I see I think I am going to have to take on the role of the mother hen of this site. I have been in the fire service for over 20 years as a volunteer, holding various positions over the years. I was the first female in our county at that time. I look forward to meeting some new friends. Glad I found this site. Take care
