Have the 16 Life Saving Initiatives been posted on any blog here at FFN?

I know that there are a number of members of FFN who consistenly post issues of firefighter safety, accident investigation results, firefighterclosecalls.com links, etc.

The sad part of this whole safety issue is that until we get the men and women wearing the colored hats on board, our pleas are falling on deaf ears. How do we tell the probie the need for full PPE with no exposed skin, when the OIC gets off the rig without SCBA, coat partially open, no tools, and casualy strolls into a residence with light smoke showing? How do we stress safety, when Incident Commanders refuse to appoint a safety officer?

In YOUR fire department, is the Safety Officer (if you have one) an upper level line officer? Or is he just another colored hat, like an engineer, EMS Crew, or Junior, and has absolute ZERO fire ground authority?

Conditions on fire scenes change extremely fast. I do not know if every LODD is a preventable death. However, 2008 is looking like a very bad LODD year.

The voice of experience tells me that he/she that speaks loudest on the topic of safety is not always the popular person around the station.

So, do YOU want to be popular? Or do you want to be one of the voices of change.....and DEMAND that yes, indeed, Everyone Goes Home?

Well, Jack; I tried. I really, really tried to stay out of this one. She seemed like a nice lady, but I read her profile and figured out that it was the old "I have this friend who needs advice" story. Anyway, I'll get right to the chase. We are a...
