nothing like holding c spine in 20 degree weather on your knees on an icey deck wearing ems pants. stupid dispatcher said "pt will be located in the living room area of the residense" looks like ima throw the good ol tournouts on for ems calls when its cold.

well I guess pennslyvania is talking about bringing back The EMT-I under the name of Advanced EMT and I guess theres going to be a nationwide change from first responder to EMR(Emergency Medical Responder)

i know in pennslyvania theres first responders, emt-b, and emt -p.
in pennslyvania theres things in the national training ciriculum for first responder you cant not do in pennslyvania. like the use of a short board, rapid extrcation, ect i think if theres going to be a national training ciriculum then every state needs to have the same protocals then

Robert.....protocols....Well, you`d THINK they`d be nation wide. The basic "standards" are but local scope of pratice protocols vary by state, region and even by county. The company I work for covers 11 counties. There are over 6 protocols we fall under. They do go somewhat along "divisional" lines. So crews working one division pretty much stay under a local protocol. That said, at times we do crosss these divisional lines when status gets crappy and they need us to cover. Then, we are under the protocols of the specific county we are in. They don`t really vary too much, might be doses or pre or post radio directives. In most of our counties, CPAP is under our protocol. It`s a BLS procedure, in others it`s not allowed. In all of our protocols, basics do blood sugar checks & combitubes. There is a trend to make trauma protocols for at least a state level. Here in Michigan, the legislature is fighting it tooth and nail, for why, I have NO clue......It would be nice to have a standard to work from.

Time to run my first published article again: CHARGED LINES by Pete Dawson "ONLY A VOLUNTEER ?" Remember the last time you heard someone say " They can't ask us do that. After all, this is only a volunteer fire department." Well it didn't cut it...
