In my opinion the president only allowed to serve a one year term with the County Firefighters Association is totally wrong. Who can bring the this ass backward county the direction it needs to go in one year? The president should be allowed to stay as long as the MEMBERS want him or her.I believe this needs to be addressed and or changed at the next meeting. This is just one example why this county is like it is. CHANGE the way we do things??? You have to be kidding me attitude...The membership as a whole rules....You decide BE SAFE!!!

"CHANGE"....."CHANGE".......YOU HAVE GOT TO BE OUT OF YOUR MIND!!! "CHANGE" there is nothing wrong with operating like it is 1970 ( even though we all know its 2009 almost 2010) This is little Columbiana County not L.A. County or Prince George's County. That big city stuff can stay in Pittsburg and NYC. I can't believe that sooooo many people thing "CHANGE" is needed in this county. The way we operate is BROKEN but there is NO WAY we will ever "CHANGE" to fix it!!!!

I think rich has been hanging out with obama with all of this talk about change!!!! But yes I believe that if the president, and vice president are doing a good job, why not leave them in there and see where we can progress to. Not talking bad about previous officers, but I feel we have progressed a lot in just the last 2 years, and become more than a social club on the 3rd weds. of the month, leave that for your own training nights if that's what you want it to be. How many of these small counties (that doesn't have a 100,000 person city) are able to say that they have been able to bring in national speakers twice in one month? my hat's off to salem fd, and also the guy's who arranged to have these speakers brought in.

You are so right Rob I have been hanging out with him and with the new stimulus money we as an association can now apply for you to have a booster chair designed for you to see over the executive table at meetings if you get sec LOL!!! See it's great to have connections buddy.......................BE SAFE!!!

If there is a problem getting the booster chair we take the booster seat from the car and strap to the table every meeting.CHANGE IS A GOOD THING IN THE FIRE SERVICE!!!!!!!!

Have to chime in on this. I agree completely with you Rich. Derek and Lump have been providing solid leadership, direction and more importantly INITIATIVE as it relates to the Firefighters Association. Over the last year or so, the meetings have actually been productive (worth going to). The longer there is continuity and purpose, the better the organization is going to be. What do the by-laws say? Are there by-laws? The Association should definitely make this an action item for the future meetings. Good job guys and keep up the good work!

It is something that needs changed in the worst way. to be honest with you all since we dont have time to do it i am guessing that the county by laws much like everyone in the free worlds also refers to roberts rules of order. suspend that part of the by laws and lets keep this county going forward. people want social hour that is all fine and well. do it when everyone is done with the business part of it when we are eating.. its been a long time coming for this to move forward. lets not stop now. lets stand and make sure the wheels dont stop.

I agree this needs changed. How ever there are some who think the meetings should be a "social hour" As I have said in the past, if that is the case then the Association needs to disband and I will spend my 3rd Wed night doing soemthing else.

With that being said... Everyone who participated in the school and other trainings proves my point we are doing something constructive here and are more then just a social club... We are moving slowly. I don't remember this much activity in a long time with the association. As long as people are on board I will keep bringing training and everything else we have done as available as I can!

Just keep going forward with the ideas. If the association wants to stop and stay the way it was then let them and the stations that are willing to learn new and safer ways should train together and mix the trainings ideas and facts to the departments involved. Let me see other chiefs go out and train with other stations from all over the United States and Canada and have one shot to prove themselves or the whole team fails. I know i hear i don't need to do anything like that because i have no plans to attend such trainings but what about the poor firefighter that goes and looks like a deer in headlights when instructed to do something that was never even mentioned at home trainings??? The way the County school is starting to be taught is exactly what these guys need here in this County. When was the last time you saw anything but 13/4 lines on a defensive fire with a good water supply? I personally don't care if another department doesn't want to see if anything new might be out there that could improve the safety of the fire scene as long as they stop criticizing those who do.We will still do want you want but we will still do our own accountibility and scene safety. BE SAFE!!!

You know I think there are people out there who want to change... I feel the people who knock how we operate don't understand what we are doing or realize that there has actually been a change in the fire service.

It really shows how un educated some are when they make comments second hand in regards to how my dept operates with ff survival and RIT operations. The reason we push for this and do what we do is because firefighters are becoming LODD and or gettining injured on the job. As I have said before I don't give 2 F#$%@ what people think of me or how we operate...

As I said we will continue making as much training available as possible!

It is interesting there are 68 people on here and only 7 can voice their opinion...

D you know what i have said if they need to make comments or critize what a department is doing its because they are jealous. they say what they want knowing they cant match what those who train are doing. if we are suck morrons and dont have a clue why is it when shit hits the fan we are the first ones called. step up or shut up i feel. we are moving forward and it has taken years for it to start. step by step. the young group is wanting to learn sadly some wish to hold back all. but it will come it will come.

Without a doubt I would. We actually did the same thing. The chiefs wife was diagnosed with breast cancer,so we decided to make some shirts in the usual navy blue with a pink maltese cross, and pink lettering on the back, then added the ribbon on th...
