What does people think of RIT/FAST Teams? Why is it so hard to implement it on the fireground?
Do people think it is not needed? Or do people think nothing will happen to them or their fd?

Everyone who knows me knows my thoughts on this so I will not type them. I will leave it here for now.

Lets make this a good discussion...

I want to thank everyone for reading this post, for your service to our county and to everyone who takes safety into mind while performing their duties as a Fire Fighter. The Fire service as a whole has been Moving to become Safer, more efficient, and more effective for the communities that they serve. If you have been following The recent NIOSH reports you may have seen an underlining contributing factors to the LODDS. Training inadequacies, PPE negligence, communications breakdown, and improper incident command, all of these listed above are areas that need to be improved upon within the fire service. Now the question that we have to ask ourselves is personally what am I doing to change that current statistic, And as a whole what are doing as a department to bring change. That is goal is it not, ISTFA’S 5TH EDITION states “The mission of the fire service is to save lives and protect property” and followed by, This is the mission of every fire department and firefighter(ISTFA’S 5TH EDITION pg15) . If we refer to our tactical priorities they are as followed; Life Safety( this being the highest priority), Incident Stabilization, and property conservation . With this Knowledge we learn that Our Safety is critical to completing our mission as a firefighter, and to increase efficiencies and effectiveness.

Columbiana County Ohio, A two thousand and eight estimate of the county found that there was approximately 107,873 residents that we protect on a daily basis. That is a three point seven percent drop from the year two thousand in total populace. That statistic goes to prove that we are losing that total capital for our departments. Which leaves Departments with an underlining problem of how do we become more efficient, more effective and how to keep our staffing levels up, all while trying to become safer during the process. At the county level we have hosted classes that where opened to all county firefighters these included, Water and Tanker shuttles, Fire Fighter safety, Auto extrication, the most recent was Dave Dodson, Former Battalion Chief , “Teaching The Art Of Reading Smoke” all of these trainings where designed to become more effective, more efficient and operating safely while performing our duties as a firefighter . At a Department level What Trainings Are we doing on our training night to help complete our task ? I understand that as firefighters we lead a busy life, but how can we effectively mange our time to complete our needs ? Regardless of our certifications we should always strive to become more effective firefighters through training. Five hundred and thirty two square miles is the area we are covering with an average of two hundred and ten people per square mile, a few quick facts for you to think about looking at it as a whole. I challenge every Columbiana county firefighter to operate in a SAFE, EFFECTIVE AND EFFICENT MANNER to serve our communities . Know matter how big or how small the department this should be our goal! EVERYONE GOES HOME !!!!!!!!!!!! Be safe be effective be efficient god bless everyone
