we have door hangers that glow in the dark. if it is hooked on both knobs ti won't let the door lock closed. when you finish searching the room you take off the inside one and let it havg from the outside knob. on primary search. upon secondary we hook both loops on the outside knob

We Have just started toying with this method. But in the past we used a permanent marker and marked an X on the door

Well truth be told the original truckie method of making everything turned over as one sign,..lol..but more seriously I have and have used glow sticks ..shut door,or open...or just communication with 2nd search team

we use 6" neon yellow glow sticks they're cheap in bulk non toxic easy to see in smoke we used to just buy any color but the engine guys used to shoot water at it thinking the orange glow was fire so now we use only yellow

I use a rubber strap that I stretch across both door knobs which keeps the door from locking.

Well there is always the OLD Fav. turning over the common furniture sofa ,chairs so on...not like they aren't getting tossed around anyway, but to keep up with the new we have red ,Green shake phoshorus lights disposable, or another thing i have seen done is as the team leaves a room place a light piece of furniture in doorway naturally any or all need to be relayed to other teams.

My department really does not have a "standard method". What we have done at my station in the past is like one or two folks on here had said. We had pieces of rubber innertube with holes in them. No they don't glow, but works the same way. While searching it gets hooked over both knobs. Once the search is complete it hangs from a knob outside. I like the both sides on the knob after the secondary. I have even considered spray painting them flourescent green or something. I just went back to this department a couple months ago and we are still in a rebuilding stage so we do not have any on the rig right now, but that will change as soon as my contact at the tire place comes up with a couple more innertubes for me to cut up. We have no budget to work with so we have to be resourcesful and creative.

We use a slightly modified version of the FEMA USAR building marking system. That way if we have a larger incident that requires USAR that marking is integrated right a way.
We use a cattle marker. They stand up to the abuse in our turnouts and heat. They mark any paint and building material we have found including glass. We have also found it helpful with the marking of searched vehicles during multi-car pile ups.
I can get a diagram we use to post in the near future of how we do the marking and the modifications from the USAR standard
We generally mark the occupancy entrance or each apartment in multifamily. We could mark individual rooms if we need to as well like an industrial setting.
