Drumms needed... new band forming in Bend, Oregon. Bend Fire and Rescue

Hello all, We are forming our first pipe and drum band. Our practices have already begun and the drummers are still using practice pads. I would like to start the conversation of equipment needs for us. we have five drummers and not one drum within the group. Is there anyone or group that can assist us in our needs?

I would also like to ask what kinds of sticks are being used by other drummers out there?

we are dedicated to seeing this work and are very excited to have pipes and drums on the east side on the cascade mountains...

any little bit of assistance would be greatly accepted.

thank you
David Mackenzie

Capt. I am not a drummer but a piper who began a webforum for Fire service pipe bands, One of my Moderators is a side drummer with Napierville Ill. and is morethen willing to help you with any questions. At this early stage I would ask how many pipers, pipestudents, do you have, what do you think themake up ofthe drum line will be ? 2 sides 2 tenors and bass? How committed are the pipers and or pipestudents yuo should expect some guys going by the wayside since we all know "life happens" 5's a decent number for a dozen or under.... as far as sticks and stuff goes I would belay those questions to the drummers with experiance, I sent you a link to the forum, if you chose to stop in we would be glad to try to help you out

thanks for the reply. i will look into your site and have a look around. We have eight pipers and four drummers currently. all drummers at this point are sides. looks as if I will be also bass. the pipersare very committed (so far) they are starting to sound very good. I will look around your fourm and see what I can learn. thanks again for your time. stay safe..

Capt. I just went into the forum, schroll down to the drums section and under "sides" there are several recent threads with otherguys who are weeks ahead of you, asking about sticks size length makers, drums brands, servicability what to consider, with them, as well as personal experiances with Both Brother firefighters who sell, as well as established buisnesses as well..definately this you can check out.. I also have a page of links to suppliers with outstanding reputations from all over the country for research at least..

I work with a combo department larry and to be honest everyone thinks their shift is the best.... another thought for you, in my department all of us are cross trained, and not to the minimum. And all of our paramedics are highly trained firefight...
