The following had significance in Illinois...

The Great Chicago Fire
October 8th-10th, 1871


Our Lady of Angels School Fire
Chicago, IL
December 1st, 1958


Paxton Hotel Fire
Chicago, IL
March 23rd, 1993
Over 100 rescues were made in about an hour, which changed the "face" of being a Truckie in Chicago as well as the U.S. fire service. From this the "Paxton Drill" was created.


Cook County Administration Building Fire
Chicago, IL
October 17th, 2003

In Texas the one that stands out to me the most is April 16, 1947. Texas City, Texas, 28 firefighters died along with hundreds of citizens after a ship explosion.

WHEN I WAS IN MY DEPT. IN UPSTATE NEW YORK, WE NEVER HAD MUCH... MOSTLY CAR WRECKS.....BUT SINCE I HAVE LIVED IN NORTH CAROLINA THE LAST 5 YEARS....THEY REALLY LIKE TO BURN THINGS DOWN AROUND HERE ! A COUPLE OF THE WORST FIRES THAT I HAVE BEEN TO ARE THE GENERAL'S BUILDING FIRE AT MCAS CHERRY POINT--OVER 25 DEPTS AT THAT ONE. AND I WENT TO THE POCASIN REFUGE FIRE LAST YEAR IN HYDE COUNTY. I GOTTA SAY WE CAN GET SOME GOOD ONE GOING HERE THE GENERALS BUILDING WAS STARTED BY A COFFEE POT THAT WAS LEFT ON..... 50 SOME YEARS OF HISTORY GONE....HEARD RECENTLY THAT THE POCASIN REFUGE COULD TAKE 10 OR MORE YEARS TO RECOVER.......CHRIS

The worst i remember ha to be The SC wildfire, Scorched 40 homes, and near 2,000 acres. I have to give Credit where credit is due, so thanx to all the firefighters, Horry County, Upstate, And surrounding States, Counties, and Cities. Not even one Person was Seriously injured. Although Horry County lost one Fire engine to the Blaze.

the wild fire we had this year. I live in the up state, and we had two of our apperatus, and four
members of the department respond to Horry County. Job well done by all, from what our members
said. Let's not forget our Nine Brothers from Charlston who paid the ultamate sacrafice, for they

You're right about that, the weird thing is. We're all firefighters and have the bond of brothers. Whether a fallin firefighter is from your department, county state, or even a stranger Thousands of miles away. We all get that sickening feeling as if we just lost someone close to us. I guess cause we all share most of the same interest and are willing to give our life for another person any and everyday. And we shall never forget thre Charleston 9. They answered that last bell, and shall now be Firefighters forever and ever AMEN Be safe yourself Brother.
