Tomorrow is the seventh eighth anniversary of the single greatest loss of firefighters we ever experienced and hopefully ever will. I can remember vividly my reaction and where and what I was doing when these events occurred. I was sitting at my desk at work and had just logged on to the CNN website to see what was happening in the world. Little did I know I was about to witness an event that would shape the future of the world. I spent the next few hours glued to my computer, flipping between all the major news agencies to get the latest information. As my coworkers and I watched the live video stream from the towers and saw the collapse, the shock of what we saw seemed to paralyze the room until the sinking feeling of what was inevitably going to be a large toll of lost souls washed over us with a sense of disbelief. I remember thinking to myself, "Oh, God, how many firemen were in there", and a short time later saying a little prayer to myself.

America and the fire service suffered an unimaginable loss that day. I suggest that we honor the lost by reliving and remembering as best we can. Please, if you can, share your story about where you were when the events of 9-11 occurred.

God Bless all those who perished and their loved ones left behind.

On the night prior I was working at the PD from 2200 to 0400hrs shift on September 10th to the 11th, then I took my wife to work on the 11th at 0600hrs and then while she was at work at walmart she heard from management about the planes hitting the towers so she called me but I was already glued to the TV because of my Pager had went off previously for a Unknown medical call and since I had trouble getting back to sleep, I decided to get up and I never ended ever going back to sleep for the next 2 days. My fire department was trying to decide if we can afford to send some crews ready with a couple of our trucks to New York to help but we never got the Okay from the Government because there was numerous agencies closer to utilize! I remember feeling angry because we wanted to help our brothers in arms and we were not allowed. My Police Department went on high alert and everyone was ready to lend a hand if needed and extra security measures were being implimented. Everyone that I worked with in Both the Police and the Fire Departments were under great stress and shocked about what had happen on that morning!

I pray to show respect on September 11th to all those brave men and women who did their best to save as many lives as possible on that tragic day and to all of their families who suffered along with them for all the days and years that have gone by.

I know that I will never "EVER" forget their efforts at New York, The Pentagon and even Pennsylvania and I commend their bravery on that Tragic day.

Brother Kevin:

I was called to duty on Long Island (North Babylon Vol Fire Company). I promise you that I will not let anyone forget this date. I attended a memorial service down here in Sebastian, Fl this morning. I have always held services while still at work, and will continue to attend any service regarding 9-11. I recently had a tattoo put on my arm of the towers with an American Flag behind it and a 9-11-01 banner below it so that I can show my grown children and my small grandchildren why they should never forget as well.

You survived because you have been chosen to remind people of the ordeal and WHY the others died...because they did their jobs as we are supposed to.

You all will never be forgotten as long as there are others that have lived and died for this country you are all heroes any one who has worn or will ever wear a badge will remember the brotherhood and those who gave it there all. The brotherhood we share no one else can understand.. I would gladly trade my life for any one of those brothers that lost theirs.

I appreciate your response. It can't be easy, even to give a short response to a simple discussion like this one. You are right about firefighters being among the greatest people on earth. I don't have quick and easy answers to your questions, but I do believe things happen for reasons we don't understand and are not supposed to understand. Keep the faith.

All I can say is that I will Never forget as I am sure you will not either! As a brother in Arms so to speak I want to tell you Thanks for what you did on that day and I wanted you to know that all of your brothers and sisters across the nation who were not there, were giving you and our fellow firefighters all the support mentally that we could muster!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember: No matter how much we want the support from everyone we protect, there will always be someone that will comment that we should of done more!
I call them STUPID! Oops!! I mean Oblivious to there surroundings??
