In our dept. most of the members use the traditional german "Feuerwehr" - helmet; since a year, new members or if old helmets have to be replaced, you get the " Bullard H2000" which is more comfortable and better adaptable. Unfortally it does not look like the traditional helmet.

Steffen, seriously, I thought that the H2000 was pretty close to the traditional German fire helmet? Could you post a photo of a tradional one to further my education please?

We're issued Pacific helmets, ones that look similar to thos in common use on the west coast of the USA. Composite construction.

Hi here are two pic's i took today, my own helmet (with the lamp on side) and a H2000. It's right that the H2000 looks like trad. helmet, but the H3000 (better model- costs more) looks exactly like trad. helmet unfortally I've no photo of that.
My helmet is made of aluminium and H2000 is made of composite fiber glass reinforcement.

I see what you mean, close but not quite the same. I Googled the 3000 to check :)

The "A" stands for "Atemschutz(german) = breathing protection", that means you are allowed too use a SCBA. In Germany you have to visit a special training, befor you use SCBA. Every year you have to do an physical test, and every three years there is a medical test.
I hope I could answer your question.

We also use letters on our helmets to denote training level:
BA - Breathing apparatus
PE - Gas suits
HA - Hazmat Tech.
