Don't you just love when people can't read a big bright orange sign?

We used to have this happen around here quite a bit, so most places now must have automatic releasing doors. There is a magnet behind the door that keeps the door open, when the fire alarm sounds, the magnet releases, closing the door.

But I agree...people should be reading and obeying the sign!

Well common sense go's a long ways, sign's are there for a reason (If you read them then obey by them) Just plain and simple.

maybe they read it as "DO prop open, NOT fire door"?

Haha, nice.

Like the signs that say SLOW Children At Play? Is it SLOW: Children at play? Or "Slow Children" at play?

Rather than correcting the problem by removing the chock and closing the door, we have instead chosen to take a cell phone photo of said infraction so that we may let the world see just how bone-headed some people can be.

Nicely done.

Just maybe, maybe, he took the photo before kicking the chock out as an educational opportunity for all the new guys , not unlike yourself, on the job. Being at this near 25 years I have found that the newer generation of FF’s pick things up a little better when you can show them as well as tell them.
Building management is much the same. If they are not with you on an inspection or anytime you find a life safety issue, photos are a huge help. As well it is not our job to actually fix a violation, in this case I would, but we are charged with notifying the building management to correct the issue. If we go around fixing all the violations management/owners never get the message and would wait for us to come and take care of it. Yes I have seen this happen to an inspector that was being "nice". Nothing would be done until he showed up and would "take care" of the violations.

Thank you.
You took the words right out of my mouth. I took the photo and reached down and pulled the wood out. The next day I returned to the same building and guess what the door was prop open again

what i have noticed is that people dont think that it is that big of a deal. they think that i really doesnt make a difference, even though we of course know that it can make a huge difference. unfortunately people are ignorant. and for the most part people are "sheep". what one does pretty much the rest will do.

yah...I've kicked a few wedges in my time.......expect to kick more in the future. It's even more fun when people ask me why I do it. I've changed a few peoples' way of thinking. So, at least, I'm doing my part.

a place for those who determine the cause and origin of fires. NOTE: use caution with the subject matter. do not post specifics on incidents you are currently investigating or open cases. This should be a place that investigators can network.
