LYNN, Mass. - Three police officers were among seven people injured in a two-alarm house fire in Lynn.

Police Lt. William Sharpe tells The Daily Item that five people were found inside the home after police arrived at the scene at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and found the house completely engulfed.

They rushed into the house to rescue five frantic residents and were taken to a local hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. Four of the people found inside the house also were hospitalized.

One resident, a 57-year-old man, was trapped under debris and was taken to a Boston hospital in critical condition. The others are not thought to have life-threatening injuries.

The state Fire Marshal is investigating but there was no immediate word on the cause.

Well glad to see everyone is out, especially considering the "pack-rat" conditions the reporter states. One nice thing about running EMS is the chance to get inside some of these houses before a fire. I've been in a few with such pack-rat conditions and thought about if there would be a fire. Also nice to be able to get in there sooner and maybe report the conditions to social services etc. Been a few cases where our reports got a house condemned in order for them to be cleaned up.

I agree its good everyone got out. But why if it was fully involved did the cops go in. What happens when they go down? A bad situation just got even worse, we now have twice as many rescues to make when we arrive.

Time to run my first published article again: CHARGED LINES by Pete Dawson "ONLY A VOLUNTEER ?" Remember the last time you heard someone say " They can't ask us do that. After all, this is only a volunteer fire department." Well it didn't cut it...
