i volunteer at our local fire dept. this will be my second year.i have noticed that our dept. makes about 300 or so calls a year.we have guys that have been in the fire service for years, but they only make about 30 or 40 calls a year. i was wondering ,since i only been there for a short time,i made over 160 calls last year out of 260 and this year we ran on 212 this year so far (i made 120 of those). am i still considered a newbie compared to my fellow firefighters.or do i have as much experience as they do? the guys i was refering to are the guys with 5 or less years .we only have two guys with 18 years in.we have 17 total 2 with 9 years ;one wth5yars;the rest are 3 years or less.

I work 2 jobs and have a family so I can't make as many of my vol. depts. calls as I used to...the new guy at my dept. that has been making most of the calls for the last year isn't better than me... he is just the new guy that is making most of the calls. I'm sure your older guys have been in places hotter than you can imagine. Respect them for that. I am sure they appreciate your dedication too.

If they have 20 years or more then they have earned that right. They were probably as gunho as you are when they were young. Now is the time you should start picking there brains from there experience thats how you learn. I'v be in the fire service for 32 years that what I tell the new personnel ask questions thats how you learn and run the calls. I still run 250 or more alarms a year.

Aside from all the other legal stuff....the question was about an "in-house penalty". Considering hitting a curb= pop for the crew leaving the door up= pop for crew not knowing where something is located= pop for the crew forgetting to turn the l...
