I'm looking in to getting the Bourke eyeshield attachment and goggles to go on my helmet over the standard face shield.
I would like to get some feedback on the Bourke eyeshield with goggles.

I use the Bourkes, and the googles on my 1010. The gap with the bourkes isn't bad. I'm an exterior Firefighter, and don't have the problem with the bourkes curling up. The googles are mainly used for car fires, brush fires, and overhaul. I do like this system far better then the standard faceshield on the traditional helmet. Best part about the googles is that i can take them off and use them without the helmet if I find reason to do so.

Well of all the responces only one person mentioned why they use other eye protection than the bourke lens. Damnthing you are correct they are non compliant to primary eye protection standards because they dont form to your face. I had the bourkes on a helmet issued to me about 6 years ago with the goggles. I couldn't keep the goggle strap from stretching out which would keep me from having good eye protection. I gave up on the bourkes looking cool and figured whats the point in looking cool if I loose my sight from bad eye protection any way. So basically it's up to you you will need another pair of classes or google that meet the ANSI primary eye protection standard.

I have bourkes, and I do like them (can't really see much through them anymore) but, I've noticed that they don't sheald heat as well as a standard shield in large defensive attacks. I also noticed that just after a couple interior attacks, they seem to blacken darker, and quicker than the standard shields. Could be wrong, but that's what I've experienced with mine.

It's pretty funny the number of people who responded to this that like bouke's but can't see through them. They are a waste of money and the only reason for them is fashion. Get safety glasses and googles. Keep them protected when you are not using them so you can use them when needed. If you want to be fashionable call up Tyra and be America's next top model.

Bourkes installed by Morning Pride are NFPA 1971-2007 and so are Goggles. They are only NFPA compliant for primary.

A 4" shield is Secondary eye protection and to be NFPA compliant you have to have a Primary i.e. googles or safety glasses that seal around the eyes. I have these MSA ones that look like swim goggles andf I use them for overhaul, extrication and brush fires.

Was wondering when this would come up, took all the bourkes off our helmets last year and got the ESS's to replace them. Never was to crazy bout the flip down shields. I still get a kick out of the kids that show up on calls with shinny new helmets and melted bourkes, straight outta moms oven..............

I've got a clear set on one of my helmets and love them also. Just a reminder ever with a mask on you need to remember to flip them down when you enter a hot fire. The heat will made to sheilds soft and they will drup. I seen many brand new helmet and training burns shot because they were not drop down. Just remember that Bourke's alone do not meet NFPA requirements.

they do have some that meet NFPA and go up to 300 deg.

I couldn't say. I like the new Carns helmet that the eye shield are between the helmet and bump liner, they seem to be alittle more protected, don't own one , but have seen them used...

This is the kind of helmet I have and use. The only problem I have with the shield that comes down is if something falls on your helmet, the shield will cut the bridge of your nose! But other than that, they stay out the way when not needed and stay clean and don't get smoked up. Obviously you can't use them with a face mask... good luck finding what you like!
