Howdy all NO brothers and sisters. My wife and I will be in NO next week for her convention. Can you give me ideas of places for us to visit while in town? I`m hoping to visit some fire houses while she`s doing her convention crap during the day. Where`s the best food, drink, music, ect. Does the city have a fire museum? The night we`ll be with a group of her grad students for the most part. The daytime`s all mine. Any cigar shops???

When you are in the French Quarter, be sure to stay where there are a lot people. Getting off the beaten path on Bourbon St. can get you in some very bad situations. There are a couple of cigar shops, but I don't believe the museum is still there. Best steak house is across from Harrah's Casino. It is pretty upscale and pricey, but the food is excellent. If I remember correctly it was called Morrows Steak House. Celebrities and political personalities have their own wine closets that you can see. Might need a reservation. Some of the Katrina victims were still camping under the bridge when I was last there. On the east bank they may have setup the Christmas decorations already. The aquarium is pretty neat also.

I was just down there in march and truthfully did not like bourbon st at all. The smells were horrible not to mention te price of drinks. But restraunt wise theres a town about 50 miles north of NO called Hammond the restraunt Don's seafood and steakhouse was great cheap and the food was amazing. Not to mention Ferrara Fire Apparatus is in Hammond. But there is a lot of attractions and sights along the French Quarter away from bourbon st like the lalaurie house.

Many cities in the US have had problems where the fire dept shows up and had to duck because they had things thrown or dropped from buildings on them. Our engine has had things thrown at it by kids and we live in a area considered mild but they we...
