I was shocked to find out that so many Departments have discontinued their memorial service for the fallen firefighters. How about your Department?

it's kind of hard to believe that some departments would have discontinued a memorial. I was led to believe that all of us in the fire service were a "brotherhood." I am proud to be a member of a department who still has a service every year on 9/11. Our department participates in a flag ceremony at the local middle school. This will be my first service, so I am not sure what it entails... I am charging my camera now to capture the ceremony tomorrow...

We have not forgotten, its hard not too , in the last 4 years as a Chief Officer , i have had to bury 4 members , the first was the hardest and it brought back that day i was a Captain at the time and we stood outside the house and it made me think how short life can be . Every year it comes full circle for me to this day. I always remind the members by email or text at that hour.

My department had our 9/11 memorial this morning, we invite many local departments to attend, this maybe a reason why many departments do not have their own specific memorial. I was not able to make it because I am college now so far away. I am actually next to Wright Patterson AFB so I have heard planes flying over all day. Here at school we have lowered our flags to half staff.

yes, we still attend a memorial at our station. and at home, I have my own small tribute that is placed out every year. and this morning, just as the sun was rising, myself and my husband and daughters were getting things into place. in our area, we have a lot of smaller departments that no longer do them, but as Brian said, it might be that they are attending ones at other departments.

9am this morning we had our memorial.

The base commander was here and gave his thanks to us for being ready to respond 24/7/365.

It was a powerful moment, as he was assigned to the Pentagon, and was returning to work when the plane hit.

A major part of our memorial this morning was dedicated to the brothers and sisters who are still dying from the effects of 9/11. Lets not forget the sacrifice so many made in the days and weeks after the attack.

Capt, if it's the one I'm thinking of, yes I've seen it. And I kind of took it the same way. If it's what we (and others) seem to think it's about, we'll be reading a NIOSH report on him/his dept. one of these days (although I really hope not to.)

Jake, I would have thought that a "threshold" ff would be a transitional stage, from exterior to interior, or I suppose it could be the "next" level up as "firefighter", you know as in: exterior, threshold, interior, roof, basement, sunny day, rai...
