Here is an example of the alternate EZ IO route in the humeral head. We use this as a secondary site if the proximal tibia is not available due to trauma, a previous total knee replacement, etc.

Here's an X-Ray video of how fast IV fluids enter the cardiovascular system from a tibial EZ IO. The video was shot with contrast dye, and is only 10 seconds long, which should tell you how fast this route actually is.

Here's a similar X-Ray video showing how fast the contrast dye reaches the heart from the humeral head EZ IO site...about 3 seconds.

One more - this one is the FAST-1 device, and is a little more difficult to insert than the EZ IO, due to the sternum site and the inherent "give" in the rib cage.
