The first call I answered in NY was a false alarm. My first call here in SC, I will never forget.
It was a structure fire where we lost a mother, and three children. It was a very difficult time
for the entire fire department. This is not the way anyone should have to answer their first alarm, but it happens. I can only prey that I don't have to come accross another alarm such as that.

Hey Micky,
My first call was an MFA (box call) around the corner from my parent's house. Nice ride on the back step of the OLD 442 (open cab 900 Series American LaFrance - remember?) across the village. My first REAL fire was Malloy Brothers if memory serves me correctly. That was a Signal 10. Ben busy around here 2 jobs in the past 5 days. Fireworks related fire at a woodworking shop on Hoffman & Broadway - just north of the railroad tracks. Just got back from a second floor job on 39th street.

Yo Doc, how the hell are you, good to hear from yall, and thanks for responding
to one of my discussions. Yes I do remember the old American LaFrance, we shared
the same fire house before they built 103 Maple Ave. I also remember the fire at Malloy
Brothers, I must say, those were the days. So Lindenhurt FD has been keeping you busy.
I hope all is going well on the job for you. I will be giving you a call this weekend, I have
to ask you something, and I know you will have the answer. Be well, and stay safe Brother.

First call i ever went on was when i was about 6 years old with my dad... it was a 2 story house fully involved. i watched my dad and the rest of the guys put their bunkers on and throw their packs on while i sat on the front bumper of the engine. i knew from that moment on exactly what i was gonna be when i grew up!!! And here i am 18 years old fighting fires right next to my dad and all the guys that i watched go in that house!!!

Hey Bobbie Jo, Thanks for responding to the discussion. Great story, they
say it's in the blood, I would guess there is some truth to that statement.
I also started out going to the fire house with my dad at the young age of
three years old, and soon as I was of age, I also joined. Thanks for sharing
your story with us, be well, and stay safe out there.

My first call was for a carbon monoxide alarm going off. Fumes were coming from a muffler shop next door. My heart was racing through the whole thing though.

My First call with my current Dept was a car fire, my first Dept I worked for I think it was an alarm but not sure since we only responded to the station an most times got cancelled before we got there.

I've only been on 5 calls my entire time being with the FD (which isn't long)
First; possible house fire. But we got canceled.
Second; attempted suicide. Man hung himself.
Third; man had trouble breathing.
Fourth; 3 car MVA. 16 year old boy was hurt.
Fifth; woman was having trouble breathing.

Our Department doesn't allow the Explorers to get out on certain calls. So on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ones I didn't get to get out. But on the attempted suicide, Rescue had parked right across from the garage so I could see everything that was going on. It was tough seeing him cut down. Oh my. But it only made me want to stay in Fire Fighting more to save people before it's too late.

Hey Danielle, Thank you for responding to the discussion.
I guess it wasn't hard for you to remember your first call. I see that you
are new to the fire department, and hold the title of explorer. I wish you
well, and welcome to the best job in the world. Be well, and stay safe out there.

My first call was a cardiac arrest in Jan. 1979.

Well, Mick: Alot has been going on since you posted this. Jeremy was ousted at FireDaily and replaced by John Mitchell... Quite a trick when you consider that Mitchell would be 96 if he wasn't DEAD. As you may remember, Mitchell served as Nixon's ...
