Wicking is important when you're talking about multi-layer cold weather gear.
Under turnout gear in hot environments, I haven't seen that it makes any difference.

You are correct there. The wicking feature is better suited for cold weather operations because it does keep the body dry and thus help maintains body heat. The only people I know of who wear the UA stuff are those who regularly work the Packer games or other special events in winter.

'Crabe'...it's nothing close to any personal crusade. I could care less who wears what, and to what degree. My only point was to take it in context, that's about it. I have spent three decades sweating and freezing in this job, just as many of you have. I am all for trying new fabrics and combinations and whatever to provide some degree of comfort over what is now available. And for that matter, it's harder to stay cool, as oppossed to stay warm...in my opinion.

SO...while I am on the downside of my career, I urge others to keep an open mind, and not jump to conclusions. That's it. I do NOT sell underware, n'or do I anticipate it in the future...unless it's related to being a visual inspector of Fredricks of Hollywood's stuff when wrapped around a young, well-formed female model.

That's fine Jeff, just your last post was difficult to discern what your intentions are especially when saying "No wonder the fire service crawls towards progress". If someone likes this stuff and is happy, fine, more power to them, I just don't see a reason to push a product on the entire fire service especially when better rehab procedures and a physical fitness initiative still fall by the wayside. Personally, I see no reason to spend up to $100 on something when I have no problems now.

Ive been wearing under armour for a few years now. Its AWESOME stuff. I wear both the compress shorts and Tshirts all the time. Along with the Thermals for cold seasons. They are great, and keep you cool and dry. Much better then a cotton t shirt sticking to your body.

I love the stuff.

I've never used it. But Drifire.com makes wicking apparel that I believe is rated "no drip, no melt". One of our local depts. is trying it. Haven't heard if they like it or not.
No affiliation with DRIFIRE just found it on internet.

John...usually when we get done at a fire scene I am soaked with sweat...most people get that way when they work hard especially when it is hot...no matter what I put on it WILL get wet....and as far as the hooker....well she can handle "the wick..." (I know I will catch hell for that one) LOL Paul
