Just wondering if anyone else is seeing the usual rash of spring time field fires right now??? It seems like that's all we have been doing lately including one today with 30 MPH wind gusts. That one had 5 different departments on it.

Not yet, This year... Hopefully it will stay that way. We normally have a couple a year, but we primarily have brush or woods fires, as dry as it is here in Florida it is bound to pick up, I only hope nobody gets hurt, we have a number of rookies with out much wild land experience. Lets all hope for the best and pray for rain.

Here in South Australia especially the country part of it grass fires are very common during summer either started by lightning, farm equipment being used, burn offs re-igniting or general careless people flicking cigarettes out car windows

In early 2008 during the 1st week of March my brigade was paged to a report of smoke just outside of town close to a block of pines on arrival it turned out to be a fully involved grass fire but it only took 2 CFS appliances and 1 Forestry SA fire king a few short minutes to knock down and black out the main fire front

The best way to contain as you call them over here in the USA field fires is to do running grass fire attack if its safe to do so

no, snow is just leaving the ground for us. more chimney fires since the warmer weather more structure fires than when it was below zero.

Well we are running out of things to burn. Our whole county is under a massive drought and it seems like every dang day there is a grass, brush or some kind of dang fire. We had one the other day that was started by someone throwing out a cig and a grass fire turned into 3 structures, 4 cars and the gates of hell opened up. Winds where at 20 gusting to 30-35 and before we could get there (4 minutes from the times the tones dropped) a 2 story was fully engulfed. wound up with 40 acres before we got the head knocked down.

Many people don't accept how quickly a small fire can turn into raging inferno. Drought to dry out the fuel and wind to make anything that does start take off.

Many smokers won't accept that a cigarette butt out of the car window can start a fire.

People who on bad fire days do welding outside, or use equipment that can cause sparks. One of our recent fire was started by someone slashing high grass on his propert on an extreme fire risk day (and we have all the media advertising this sort of risk). The fire ended up burning about 400 hectares (990 acres) of public and private land. Under our laws he can be made to pay costs and restitution. I wonder how bad his stupid act is making him feel now?

This is true. It's personally happened to me, I've heard horror stories about it, and someone I work with has even stated that she purposely does this as well. However, if it were her house on fire, or her husband and/or children that needed help,...
