Hi, currently I'm on a call department in North Worcester county, and I'm trying to get into a Firefighter I and II class. I was hoping to start a class this fall, but I cant seem to find my way around the mass.gov website to find the classes. I believe there is a District 8 class which my departments located in starting in January, but since I'm in college and play lacrosse in the spring that wouldn't really work out. I am without a doubt going to drop playing to start the Fire I&II, but I just wanted to know if anyone was aware of a class starting sooner than January. If so or you have any ideas that could help me they would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Robert Kilroy

Wow I'm sorry I asked a question. I'm home for the summer and not working at the department I work for while I'm in college. The only class my superiors knew about is the January class, which I mentioned, and my question was for people who would know of another. And its a paid per call department, sorry I'll fix the mistake I made in my profile for you. Thanks for your time.

And by the way, on volunteer/on-call departments in Massachusetts Fire 1&2 is recommended not required.

Some of us realized what you probably meant Bobby. Like many states a 36 hr volunteer fire certification is all that is required for a volunteer or 'paid per run' department. Level 1 and/or 2 is typically only required of stationed departments, part & full time. DT must have skipped his yoga class today.

mass.gov/dfs. Thats the Department of Fire Services website. They have a link there where you can look for available classes. Your chief should be able to get the information for you

WOW. The parallels are scary. Working in governmental fire service, I often have to remind myself that not everyone shares our "do whatever it takes" attitude towards progress and customer service. Certainly, I've often said that I can accomplis...
