INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis firefighters say an accidental fire killed an elderly woman early Sunday morning.

The fire started around 4:30 Sunday morning at the Indiana Avenue Apartments in the 800 block of Indiana, just north of IUPUI.

Firefighters found 94-year old Willa Mae Fossett in the bathroom.

"It appears that this woman had something catch fire on her bed. She then tried to pick up and put it in her walker basket and walk it to the bathroom at that point we believe she was overcome by the smoke," IFD spokesperson Rita Reith said.

Fire investigators say initial evidence indicate something on her bed may have caught on fire and she tried to take it to the bathroom to put it out.

No other apartments were damaged in the fire.
