Electrical fire damages Bear Creek home.

Firefighters inside the Mark Llewellyn residence direct a stream of water through a hole in the roof as they work to extinguish the remaining flames after a fire broke out in the home's kitchen Saturday.

Fire officials say an electrical problem was likely the cause of a fire that damaged a portion of a Bear Creek Township home Saturday.

Resort/Bear Creek Fire Chief Al Welsheimer said firefighters were called to the Mark Llewellyn residence at 5238 River Road at about 1:30 p.m. when a passer-by called 9-1-1 reporting smoke coming from the home.

When the first firefighter arrived on the scene three minutes later, he reported flames were visible. Welsheimer said he was not sure if the homeowners were home at the time of the fire, but he said no injuries were reported.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the bulk of the fire, which started in the kitchen area, extinguished. Welsheimer estimated that the fire caused extensive damage -- including burning a hole through the roof -- to about 25 percent of the home.

Fire crews were on the scene until about 4 p.m. and were assisted by firefighters from Melrose Township and Petoskey.

Welsheimer said an investigation following the fire determined that the fire was caused by an electrical problem in the kitchen area and was accidental in nature.

He said the homeowners had insurance on the home.

Yes I was the nozzle man on this one................. :)
