I am still fairly new. (still mid apprenticeship) I just renewed my first aid and cpr after a couple of years of it being expired.

I was sadly disappointed. I had thought I would have learned something newer or more advanced. Since I didn't, what is the next step after CPR/First Aid? Is it going for the basic level of EMT? Advanced medical is not required for my department, but I personally view it as a valuable skill.

If your willing to work hard, the next step would be EMT-Basic. Some departments will help buffer the costs of the class, may be worth you checking into

In Kansas the next step would be First Responder, which teaches all the basic skills of EMT Basic but not all the more "advanced" skills.
