ok i know i posted a similar one in relation to the condition of female firefighters turnout gear but this one is more geared to juniors in general.
is your gear not your size or already worn out?
does this interfere with your trainings?
thanks

they should feel like kings! we have people on my dept.that have been in for like almost 10 years and they are just getting thier own set of fitted gear and its because of our grant. --the way it worked was the main interior guys and the chiefs got the nwe gear everyone else is getting it slowly, with the price of it my dept. can only afford about 2 pair(bunkers & coat) at a time. so its going really slow! im an interios now amd my gear is WAY outdated so i got moved up a little on the list but i havny got moved up enough to get sized or anything yet

my turnouts brand new now but when i joined it was old. Truthfully the company should be buying new gear every 7 years or so. But most companys cannot (mine). So you get what they have it shouldnt interfere with your training at all it shouldnt be that old.

Hey Jessica, The wrong size gear can interfere with your training. on our dept. we have a 6 month probation. The firefighter is issued a set of black gear in great shape. We have lots of sizes so they try on til one fits. If put on the dept. after the six months they get a new set Globe G- Xtreme in thier size. Gloves can be a big problem if they our to big.

The wrong size gear can definitely interfere with training. Just try working with gloves two sizes too big or a coat 6 inches too long. I know you can't buy new gear for every recruit, but you have to keep safety in mind when you are outfiiting a firefighter for work or trainig. I know getting gear that fit correctly made a huge difference to me.

I agree with this your gear should fit you properly.I understand that you have to work with what you have sometimes, but proper fit gear sure help's.My dept.uses Globe and its awsome. When we get gear are company we buy from send's someone to measure you for your gear.

if your a girl; your gear will never fit right. niether will your uniforms or even ff t shirts. ff ing is a mans job, us girls are simply non tradional (and pretty damn good at it if i say so) but its just something you have to deal with, climbing ladders with extra long pants and having to hike em up before you go threw the window totally sucks
i used to feel like a penguin in my old gear, then everyone got new gear specially made for them... now i cant breathe in them. but being a girl, you just gotta live with it. Or, "be a man" lol

oh and p.s.
me and my friend are trying to get pink gear :)

This sounds like a safety concern, all our gear is fitted to the specific FF, and after 10 years it is replaced.

heya,

my turnout gear is all second hand apart from my fire boots. its not anoyying but just makes me stand out with my crew as i have got the old overalls and helmet. lol

Turnouts, whether for training or duty need to fit,PERIOD. Train like you play and play like you train, this applies to gear as well as tactics, your movements should not be restricted by gear that is too small or gear that you are swimming in because it is over-sized. As far as worn out gear, it definitely needs to be relegated to the training only pile, remember, the new NFPA standard states that if it's 10 years old or older it needs to be replaced, this goes for helmets, gloves, boots, bunkers, turnouts, nomex hoods, everything.

When guys get new gear, the first thing they want is a training burn. New gear makes you look like such a rookie!!

This is true. It's personally happened to me, I've heard horror stories about it, and someone I work with has even stated that she purposely does this as well. However, if it were her house on fire, or her husband and/or children that needed help,...
