NEW LONDON, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas community is remembering a longtime volunteer firefighter. Flags are at half-staff at the New London city hall, a tribute to longtime volunteer firefighter and former mayor, 86-year-old M.V. Hudson.
"He was about helping people," longtime friend John Hendon says. John Hendon started his first day of fire training with Hudson nearly 5 decades ago. He remembers the first call with Hudson when they rode a 1941 fire truck.
New London Fire Chief Curtis Riley says the station's water truck flipped over when the wheels slid off the highway; and both Hudson and the driver had to be rescued from the vehicle.
