CHICAGO (AP) — A fire at a vacant building on Chicago's Northwest Side has left two people dead and two firefighters injured.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Chief Kevin MacGregor says the blaze was reported at about 8:15 p.m. Friday.

Authorities say it appears that the fire started on the second floor of the 2½-story building, where the bodies of two adults were found.

Their names haven't been released.

Two firefighters also suffered non-life-threatening injuries to their legs and were transported to an area hospital. MacGregor says about 90 people, including firefighters and paramedics, responded to the scene.

Police and neighbors say the building has been vacant and boarded up for several years but that squatters have been going in and out of it.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
