BEATRICE, Neb.—The 43-year-old Beatrice man has escaped a fire that destroyed his mobile home.
Beatrice radio station KWBE reports that Thomas Fulmer was awakened early Thursday morning by smoke in the home. Fulmer called 911 just after midnight, and escaped with his cat through a back door.
Beatrice Fire Capt. Jake Carrel says the fire originated in the ceiling and attic area of the mobile home. Carrel says a smoke detector did sound inside the home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Carrel says firefighters were on the scene of the fire until about 3 a.m.
