HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say firefighters rescued seven people, including three children, from a second-floor porch of a burning home in Hamtramck.
The Detroit Free Press reports (http://on.freep.com/M50XRa ) the back of the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters responded early Monday to a report of a garage fire.
The fire department says the seven people were trapped on the second floor by the fire.
Hamtramck Fire Captain Christopher Sanchez says he held an extension ladder while firefighter Andy Capo climbed up and carried the children down one-by-one.
Sanchez says Capo, who has been with the department for about 4½ years, "didn't hesitate" during the rescue. Sanchez says Capo should be commended.
No injuries were reported.
