At Least 1,000 Pigs Die in Michigan Fire

Several departments responded to Branch County barn fire.

BRONSON, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say at least 1,000 pigs died in a southern Michigan fire that destroyed two barns and damaged another.

The Sturgis Journal reports (http://bit.ly/JXyHBl ) the fire happened Saturday morning Branch County, in the Bronson area. There were no reported injuries to people.

Firefighters saved about 200 pigs. Several area departments responded to the blaze. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
