LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say residents got out safely, but a 16-unit apartment building was badly damaged in a three-alarm blaze in northwest Las Vegas.
Fire spokesman Tim Szymanski (zim-ANN'-skee) says 25 people escaped the 6:30 p.m. Thursday fire in a two-story building at the Ashford Manor complex near Smoke Ranch Road and Jones Boulevard.
Investigators will be back at the scene Friday to try to determine what caused the fire.
Szymanski says it took three hours and more than 100 firefighters to bring the wind-whipped blaze under control.
Firefighters fought flames as they spread through the attic and destroyed eight upstairs apartments. Downstairs units were also damaged, and the building was in danger of collapse.
The American Red Cross is helping residents find another place to stay.
