Ky. Firefighter Dies After Being Hit by Train

MOUNT VERNON, Ky.— Officials in south-central Kentucky say a firefighter has died after a train struck his pickup truck at an unmarked railroad crossing.

WKYT-TV in Lexington reported (http://bit.ly/IeMbkQ ) that the wreck happened about 9:30 a.m. EDT Friday near the tracks on State Highway 1004, near Brush Creek.

Officials identified the deceased as 29-year-old Christopher Kerns, a full-time firefighter with the Berea Fire Department and a part-time firefighter in Mount Vernon.

The station reported that there were no lights or crossbars at the intersection.
