NEW HAVEN, Ind. (AP) — An on-duty firefighter woke up to an overnight call of a fire at his own home near Fort Wayne.

Officials say the New Haven firefighter was sleeping at the station when the call came in about 2 a.m. Thursday for a fire at his family's home about a mile away. He was the first firefighter to arrive at the scene in the city just east of Fort Wayne.

Tim Bristow of the New Haven-Adams Township Fire Department tells WANE-TV (http://bit.ly/JfIFOo ) that the firefighter's wife and four children got outside without any injuries.

The fire was contained to the back of the house, but it did sustain significant smoke and water damage.
