Four Maryland Firefighters Hurt in Accident En Route to Apartment Fire

Three people in the civilian vehicle were also injured and transported to area hospitals

Glen Burnie, Md. -- Four firefighters and three civilians were injured in a traffic accident in Anne Arundel County Wednesday evening.

The accident happened while a second alarm for a fire was being called out to other firefighters for back-up, Anne Arundel County fire officials said.

"Four fire fighters in the rescue unit suffered minor injuries and were taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Three people in the civialian vehicle were also injured. One adult male and one adult female were taken to Baltimore Shock Trauma  with serious but non life threatening injuries. One adult female was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with minor injuries," fire officials tell 9NEWS NOW.

The accident happened on Ritchie Highway at Rte 648 in Glen Burnie, officials said.

That was three miles away from the fire where they were headed to fight at the 7900 block of Benesch Circle, in Glen Burnie at the Pinewood Seniors Midrise Building at 6:44 p.m., officials said.

A man had to be rescued from the multi-story apartment building for seniors, officials said.

That man was taken to a burn center to treat his injuries.
