YORBA LINDA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a blast in an underground electrical vault in Yorba Linda has sent two firefighters to the hospital.

Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Marc Stone said the firefighters were investigating two blasts from the vault when a third explosion occurred around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

He said the blast knocked the firefighters back 10 feet. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Stone said a total of four blasts occurred, sending 10- to 20-feet fireballs out of the vault.

A spokesman for Southern California Edison couldn't confirm whether any explosion occurred, but said that some type of equipment failure in the vault caused an outage to 3,380 customers in the area.

Paul Klein said power was restored to nearly 2,000 of those customers two hours later.
