SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — A 6-year-old critically injured in a house fire in San Jose that killed his mother has died.
Authorities tell the San Jose Mercury News (http://bit.ly/IJWZNZ) the boy died at a hospital on Thursday, two days after the fire.
The three-alarm blaze killed the boy's mother and injured his father and a 12-year-old. Three other family members living in the unit were not badly hurt.
Their identities have not been released although authorities have said the mother was in her 50s.
Firefighters responding to the blaze were met by residents screaming that people needed to be rescued. They encountered heavy smoke and flames and used a ladder to help some of the family members get out.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
