BALTIMORE (AP) — Three children have been rescued from a burning home in Baltimore.

Firefighters were called to the home on West Lexington Street around 2:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of a fire and people trapped inside. While some firefighters battled the flames, fire department spokesman Chief Kevin Cartwright says others searched the home and found three children.

Cartwright says the children, believed to range in age from about 7 years old to 16 years old, were suffering from smoke inhalation. They were rescued and taken to Shock Trauma, where they remain in serious condition.

Cartwright says the cause of the fire remains under investigation. He says it's not yet clear whether there were working smoke alarms at the home.
