FAIRBANKS, Alaska— More Alaska fire crews are headed to the Lower 48 to help battle wildfires in several western states.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (http://is.gd/M0Bf8f) says the latest batch — five crews from St. Michael, Koyuk, Selawik , Shageluk and Scammon Bay — left Wednesday for Utah, where they will receive specific assignments.
Five other Alaska crews from Nondalton, Copper River, Venetie, Fort Yukon and Kenai left Monday to help fight a wildfire in Wyoming. The Fontenelle Fire has burned more than 57,000 acres. More than 800 firefighters are working to contain the fire.
