YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) — Fire officials are investigating a fire that displaced 13 families and killed several pets in Yonkers.
When firefighters arrived at 76 Crotty Ave. Sunday afternoon, they found the third floor fully engulfed and flames shooting through the roof and spreading to the second floor.
According to the Journal News, it took 53 firefighters and 12 vehicles three hours to bring the fire under control at 7 p.m.
Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with steam burns.
Authorities said several cats and a bird were killed in the fire. One dog remained missing.
The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
